Susanne Kaufmann is known worldwide for her plant-based active cosmetics. Now she has given her successful anti-aging line a contemporary upgrade. In an interview, she told us what requirements our skin care must meet today and which ingredients she counts on.

How did you come to the decision to revise Anti Aging Line A?

The launch of the Anti Aging skincare routine Line A a good 10 years ago was based on a combination of highly active single ingredients and technologies developed in years of research. As innovative and ingenious as this formula was and still is, 10 years ago no one could have foreseen what kind of stress the skin would be confronted with in the future.

What exactly do you mean by this?

The rapid increase in harmful environmental influences. No matter whether Berlin, Moscow or New York: More and more cities are disappearing under dense haze and are struggling with increased smog. A condition that damages not only the environment but also the skin and accelerates the aging process. So in order to support the skin as effectively as possible in its resistance to external stresses such as air pollution, we have now decided to supplement Line A with particularly effective ingredients.

Which are these?

One is Liftiss, an extract from the baobab fruit containing AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) and xylose, which have a strong antioxidant effect and compensate the skin's loss of moisture. In addition, valuable minerals such as zinc, magnesium and calcium as well as vitamin C have a calming and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. The second ingredient is Urbalys: a natural anti-pollution ingredient from the red Schisandra berry. This has been used for thousands of years in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) to vitalise, regenerate and detoxify the body. It is particularly rich in vitamin C, which inhibits inflammatory processes in the body, strengthens the immune system and boosts collagen synthesis in the skin. Vitamin C acts successfully in the defence against free radicals and supports cell growth.

What else can I do to protect my skin sufficiently against environmental influences?

Fresh country air favours good skin. Deep inhalation increases the oxygen supply to the entire body, improves the metabolism and allows toxins to be removed from the body more quickly. But deep inhalation in the city? I'd rather not. Organic substances and even heavy metal molecules can attach themselves to the dirt particles in the air and thus reach deeper layers of skin. There they react with collagen molecules and can promote the formation of free radicals in cell metabolism - this is exactly what causes the skin to age prematurely. My recommendation is to go out of town more often, drink enough and cleanse the skin thoroughly - in the morning and in the evening.
