The brand was founded by Bee Shapiro, a New York Times columnist and beauty editor for Vogue, Vanity Fair and InStyle. As a fragrance lover, she searched for natural body lotions with a luxurious fragrance and did not find what she was looking for. Together with perfumer Jerome Epinette, who also created the popular Chloé and Byredo fragrances, she developed her own line and named it after her daughter: Ellis Brooklyn.
