Dr. Barbara Sturm's Summer Routine
Protection, hydration, and a strong skin barrier—the essentials for healthy skin in the summer.
That’s right, because it’s a timeless classic. Just as a white T-shirt belongs in every wardrobe, hydration is the foundation of any good skincare routine. The Hyaluronic Serum supports the skin barrier, deeply hydrates the skin, and creates the ideal foundation for all other skincare products. That’s why I use it in the morning and at night. It’s the one product I could never do without. Well-hydrated skin functions better, looks fresher, and is significantly more resilient.
Why is hyaluronic acid so important, especially in the summer?
Hydration is the foundation of healthy skin—especially in the summer, when heat, sun, travel, and air conditioning can dry out the skin. My Hyaluronic Serum combines short-, medium-, and long-chain hyaluronic acid to intensely hydrate the skin both on the surface and in deeper layers.
In addition, the formula contains bio-fermented purslane—a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient that has been proven to protect the skin from oxidative stress and support its natural regenerative processes. The serum was developed based on my medical experience and my anti-inflammatory skincare philosophy.
Clinical studies also confirm its effectiveness: After 56 days, there was a 28% improvement in skin hydration, a 15% increase in elasticity, and a 23% reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.
In the summer, we spend more time outdoors and our routine becomes simpler. How do our skin’s needs change?
As the seasons change, so do our skin’s needs. In the summer, the skin is exposed to increased UV radiation, heat, humidity, saltwater, chlorine, and environmental stressors. All of these can weaken the skin barrier and promote inflammatory processes. While my priorities remain the same, they become even more important during this time: consistent sun protection, adequate hydration, and strengthening the skin barrier with anti-inflammatory ingredients. Healthy, resilient skin is, of course, always the goal—regardless of the season.
A fresh, radiant complexion is at the top of many people’s wish lists in the summer. Why is this such a big deal right now?
In the summer, we usually wear less makeup and show more skin. That’s why many people want a fresh glow. At the same time, UV radiation, heat, and environmental stress increase inflammation in the skin—which, by the way, is one of the most important factors in premature skin aging. That’s why I focus on three things: protection, hydration, and care. Healthy skin glows all on its own. Period.
Between the sun, heat, travel, and air-conditioned rooms, the skin is exposed to many stresses in the summer. What helps it stay balanced?
In the summer, the skin has to adapt to many external influences at once. That’s why your skincare routine shouldn’t get more complicated—it should be more targeted. In my view, reliable UVA and UVB protection, along with products that support the skin’s natural defense mechanisms, are the best foundation.
Can you tell us exactly which products those are? What does your summer routine look like?
I’m convinced that in the summer, the skin doesn’t need more products—it needs the right ones. My routine starts with the Cleanser, followed by The Good C Vitamin C Serum, which helps prevent hyperpigmentation. Next, I use the Face Cream Light for light moisturization and protect my skin with Sun Drops SPF 50 and Sun Cream Body SPF 30. When I’m on the go, the Hyaluronic Face Mist provides a refreshing and hydrating boost anytime.
For me, the Hyaluronic Serum is part of my daily skincare routine all year round. After a day in the sun, I also use the Face Mask and let it sit on for about 30 minutes. It soothes redness and irritation and provides the skin with intense hydration.
